Creation of Logo

1967

Logo is a programming language designed for teaching, developed by Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papert and Cynthia Solomon at the research firm Bolt, Beranek and Newman. It is based on Lisp, and it is best known for its turtle graphics, in which learners give instructions to a cursor, the turtle, that draws lines on the screen or moves a small floor robot. Papert, who worked at MIT, saw it as a tool for constructionist learning, in which children learn mathematics and logical thinking by building things. Logo was widely used in schools in the 1980s on home computers, and it influenced later educational languages such as Scratch.
