Construction of Phu Bai International Airport

1932

Phu Bai International Airport serves the city of Hue, the old imperial capital of Vietnam, and lies in Thua Thien-Hue province, some fifteen kilometres south of the city. The site began as an airfield in the first half of the twentieth century, and during the Vietnam War it was used by United States forces, who had a large combat base at Phu Bai. After the war it returned to civilian use as a regional airport. Today it offers domestic flights to cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and it is the main air gateway for visitors to the Citadel of Hue and the other historic monuments of central Vietnam.
