The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia is the Gothic cathedral of Barcelona, begun on the site of earlier churches, including a Romanesque cathedral, and dedicated both to the Holy Cross and to the city's young martyr saint Eulalia, whose tomb lies in the crypt. Construction continued for well over a century, in the Catalan Gothic style, and the main facade and the central spire were only completed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, following medieval designs. The cloister contains a garden with a flock of white geese, which are traditionally kept there. The cathedral stands in the Gothic Quarter, and is the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona.
