Birth of Sylvester Stallone

6 July 1946

Sylvester Stallone was born on 6 July 1946 in Hell's Kitchen. An American actor and filmmaker born in New York, Stallone struggled as an actor until he wrote the screenplay of Rocky, about an underdog boxer from Philadelphia, and insisted on starring in it. The 1976 film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Stallone was nominated for both acting and writing. It led to a series of sequels, and he created another franchise as the Vietnam veteran John Rambo in First Blood in 1982. He also directed several of his films and later starred in The Expendables series with other action stars. He received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for reprising Rocky Balboa in Creed in 2015.
