Manuel Neuer was born on 27 March 1986 in Gelsenkirchen. A German goalkeeper, Neuer rose to fame at Schalke 04 and then spent more than a decade at Bayern Munich, where he won numerous league titles and the Champions League twice. Famed for his role as a sweeper-keeper, who plays far from his goal and starts attacks with his feet, he changed expectations of how a goalkeeper plays. He was a key member of the German team that won the 2014 World Cup, and was named the tournament's best goalkeeper. He captained the national team for several years and retired from international football in 2024.
