Frank Lloyd Wright was born on 8 June 1867 in Richland Center. An American architect, Wright designed more than five hundred buildings in a career lasting over seventy years, and was the leading proponent of organic architecture, in which buildings are in harmony with their sites. He developed the Prairie style, with low horizontal lines, at houses like the Robie House in Chicago, and later designed Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, built over a waterfall. Other well-known works include the Johnson Wax headquarters and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, which was completed shortly after his death. He founded the Taliesin Fellowship to train young architects, and he was also a controversial and flamboyant personality.
