Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 in The Brontë Birthplace. An English novelist and poet, Emily Bronte is the author of Wuthering Heights, the only novel she published, which appeared in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. The book, set on the Yorkshire moors, tells a story of obsessive love and revenge across generations and was met with confusion by critics but later became a classic of English literature. She grew up with her sisters Charlotte and Anne in a parsonage in Haworth, and the siblings wrote poems and invented imaginary worlds in childhood. She died of tuberculosis at the age of thirty, a year after her novel was published.
