Bing Crosby was born on 3 May 1903 in Tacoma. An American singer and actor, Crosby was one of the biggest stars of the twentieth century, known for a warm baritone voice and a relaxed crooning style. His recording of White Christmas, introduced in the film Holiday Inn in 1942, became one of the best-selling singles of all time. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Going My Way in 1944 and starred with Bob Hope in the popular Road to... series of comedies. A pioneer in the use of magnetic tape for radio, he helped develop the recording industry. He was an avid golfer and died after a round on a course in Spain.
