Release of Clash of Clans

2 August 2012

Clash of Clans is a mobile strategy game developed by the Finnish company Supercell, first released for iOS devices. Players build a village, train troops and join clans to attack other players' bases and take part in clan wars. The game uses a free-to-play model with in-app purchases that let players speed up building and training, and it became one of the highest-grossing mobile games in the world. Its success made Supercell one of the most valuable game companies in Europe, and in 2016 the Chinese company Tencent took a majority stake in it. The game was later released on Android, and it has received frequent updates.
