2012 killing of striking miners by police in Wonderkop, North West, South Africa. It took place on 16 August 2012 in what is now South Africa. The setting was Marikana. Those involved included the National Union of Mineworkers, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and South African Police Service. About 47 people died. Some 250 were injured.
