Growing influence of Islamic fundamentalist groups in the region in the Middle East. It took place around 1980s. Those involved included Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Islamic State and Muslim Brotherhood. Its causes included the Iranian Revolution, Zionism and military occupation. It led to the Battle of Gaza (2007), Salafi-jihadist insurgency in the Gaza Strip and the Islamic Emirate of Rafah.
