The Times of India is an English-language daily newspaper published in Mumbai, and one of the oldest newspapers still in print in India. It was founded in Bombay in 1838 as the Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce, at a time when British commercial and official interests in the city were growing. It took the name Times of India in 1861 after merging with other papers, and it later came under Indian ownership. Its publisher, Bennett, Coleman and Company, built it into one of the largest English-language dailies in the world by circulation. It has editions in many cities and is a leading force in the country's press.
