Founding of Leicester City F.C.

1884

Leicester City was formed by former pupils of Wyggeston School under the name Leicester Fosse, and it adopted the name Leicester City in the early twentieth century when Leicester received city status. After years in the lower divisions, the club rose to the top level in English football, and played at Filbert Street before moving to the King Power Stadium in 2002. In 2016, under the Italian manager Claudio Ranieri, Leicester won the Premier League at odds of 5000 to 1, one of the greatest surprises in sporting history. It later won the FA Cup in 2021. In 2018 its Thai owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, died in a helicopter crash outside the stadium.
