Founding of Financial Times

9 January 1888

The Financial Times is a London-based daily newspaper that focuses on business, finance and economics. It began in the late 19th century as the London Financial Guide and soon adopted its current name, rivalling another financial paper, the Financial News, with which it merged in 1945. It is printed on distinctive salmon-pink paper, a choice made to stand out from other newspapers. It was owned for many years by the Pearson group and was sold to the Japanese media company Nikkei in 2015. It is known for its international coverage and for its digital subscription model, and has a global readership among investors and policymakers.
