Founding of Eintracht Frankfurt

8 March 1899

Eintracht Frankfurt is a German sports club based in Frankfurt am Main, best known for its football team. The club took its present form after a merger of two earlier clubs, though its origins are traced to a football club formed in the late nineteenth century. Eintracht won the German championship in 1959, the German Cup several times, and the UEFA Cup in 1980. Its attacking football in the 1950s and 1960s, including a European Cup final against Real Madrid in 1960, is part of club lore. In 2022 the team won the UEFA Europa League. It plays at the stadium in the Frankfurt city forest, known for its loud supporters, and is one of the largest clubs in Germany by membership.
