Founding of Crystal Palace F.C.

1861

Crystal Palace is a football club from south London, named after the great glass exhibition hall that was moved to Sydenham Hill after the Great Exhibition of 1851. The club traces its origins to 1861, although its present form dates from the early twentieth century, and it moved to Selhurst Park in 1924. For most of its history, Palace was a middle-ranking club, moving between the divisions, and it reached the FA Cup final in 1990 and 2016, losing both. It won its first major trophy in 2025, the FA Cup, defeating Manchester City in the final. The club's nickname is the Eagles, and it has a strong rivalry with Brighton.
