Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died on 5 December 1791 in Vienna, aged 35. An Austrian composer of the Classical period, Mozart was a child prodigy who toured the courts of Europe with his father and sister, and who composed from the age of five. He worked in Salzburg and then settled in Vienna, where he wrote some of his best works. His output of more than six hundred compositions includes symphonies, piano concertos, chamber music and operas such as The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute. He died at the age of thirty-five, leaving his Requiem unfinished. His music is admired for its melodic beauty, balance and emotional depth.
