Vespasian was born on 17 November 9 CE in Falacrine. The ninth Roman emperor and founder of the Flavian dynasty, Vespasian was a successful general who had served in Britain and was fighting the Jewish revolt when he was proclaimed emperor, during the chaotic Year of the Four Emperors. After winning the civil war, he restored the empire's finances and stability, embarking on a program of building that included the Colosseum, known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, and the Temple of Peace. He was known for his practical, humorous character and for taxing public toilets. He was succeeded by his sons Titus and Domitian.
