The 2024 United Kingdom general election, held on 4 July, ended fourteen years of Conservative government. The Labour Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, won a large majority in the House of Commons, with more than 400 seats, although with a relatively low share of the popular vote and low turnout. The Conservatives under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak suffered their worst result in their history, while the Liberal Democrats made big gains and Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, won seats in Parliament for the first time. The Scottish National Party lost most of its seats. Starmer became prime minister the following day.
