The Musee des Arts et Metiers is a museum of science and technology in Paris, linked to the Conservatoire national des arts et metiers. It was established during the French Revolution on the proposal of Abbe Henri Gregoire, who wanted a public collection of machines and instruments to spread technical knowledge among French workers and industry. It was installed in the former priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs, where it remains. The collections include scientific instruments used by Lavoisier, early calculating machines, aircraft and Nicolas Cugnot's steam-powered road vehicle. The museum also displays the pendulum made by Leon Foucault to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth.
