Founding of Euronext Paris

24 September 1724

Euronext Paris is the French stock exchange and descends from the Paris Bourse, which was established by royal decree under Louis XV a few years after the collapse of John Law's Mississippi Company bubble. The exchange later moved into the Palais Brongniart, built under Napoleon, and open-outcry trading on its floor gave way to electronic trading in the 1980s, with the CAC 40 index introduced in 1987. In 2000 the Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels exchanges merged to form Euronext, which became part of NYSE Euronext in 2007 and was spun off as an independent company in 2014. In 2021 Euronext acquired the Italian exchange Borsa Italiana.
