Construction of Villa Park

1897

Villa Park is a football stadium in Birmingham, England, and the home ground of Aston Villa. The club moved there in 1897 from its earlier ground at Perry Barr, taking over a site that had been part of the Aston Lower Grounds, a Victorian amusement park beside Aston Hall. Over the years it has been reshaped many times, with its best-known stand being the Holte End. It has hosted more FA Cup semi-finals than any other ground, as well as international matches and games at the 1996 European Championship. Its capacity has grown to over forty thousand, making it among the largest club stadiums in England.
