Birth of George Harrison

25 February 1943

George Harrison was born on 25 February 1943 in 12 Arnold Grove. An English musician from Liverpool, Harrison was the lead guitarist of The Beatles, sometimes called the quiet Beatle. Although overshadowed at first by the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney, he contributed songs such as Something, Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. His interest in Indian music and Hinduism, and his study of the sitar with Ravi Shankar, brought these traditions to a Western audience. After the group broke up he released the triple album All Things Must Pass, containing My Sweet Lord, and organized the Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, an early benefit concert. He also helped to found the Traveling Wilburys and HandMade Films. He died of cancer.
