The Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum was dedicated to the Dioscuri, the twin gods who were believed to have helped the Romans win the Battle of Lake Regillus against the Latins in the early Republic. The dictator Aulus Postumius is said to have vowed the temple during that battle, and it was dedicated some years later. It was rebuilt several times, notably by the emperor Tiberius, and three tall Corinthian columns of this late version still stand. The temple's high podium was used as a speakers' platform and as a place to keep standard weights and measures. It was also the meeting place of the Roman knights, the equites.
