Introduction of złoty

1496

The zloty is the currency of Poland, and its name means golden, as it was originally linked to gold coins. The modern currency was introduced in 1924 during a reform that ended postwar inflation, and it was redenominated in 1995, when one new zloty replaced ten thousand old ones. It is divided into one hundred groszy.
