Mark Zuckerberg was born on 14 May 1984 in White Plains. An American internet entrepreneur, Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004 as a student at Harvard together with classmates including Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The site spread quickly from universities to the general public and grew into one of the largest social networks in the world, joined by acquisitions such as Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014. As chief executive he oversaw the company's reorganization as Meta Platforms in 2021. He has faced intense criticism and public scrutiny over privacy, misinformation and the influence of social media. With his wife Priscilla Chan he created a philanthropic organization focused on science and education.
